I love making pie pops for special occasions ....
I decided to make these Hearty Valentine Treats for my office staff !
- Your favorite store bought pie crust (I'm using brand: Immaculate ready to bake Pie crust )
- Flour for rolling dough
- 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar
- 1 large egg, (Beaten for egg wash)
- Water- to seal pie crust together
- Strawberry Jam (Option you can add chocolate chips or Nutella to the jam for extra goodness)
- Red Sugar sprinkles
- Lollipop sticks
- Heart cookie cutter
Before starting, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Start by rolling out your dough until it’s smooth and even, roughly 1/4″ thick.
Once your dough is rolled out, use your cookie cutter to cut out as many hearts as you can. Recombine the scraps of dough and repeat until you have a whole bunch of little dough hearts.
Line the hearts on a non stick baking pan .
Leave enough space in between each heart so they don't bake into each other .
I'm using Duncan Hines Strawberry filling
that has chunks of real strawberry .
I place the filling in food processor
to blend all the strawberries to a smooth & thick texture.
Perfect
Spoon the Strawberry filling
in the center of half of the hearts.
Place a lollipop stick on each crust.
Press the sticks into the dough.
Using your fingertip dab water around the edges of the heart.
This creates a seal for the top crust.
Now place the remaining hearts on top
and seal both crust together .
Don't worry if some of the filling is showing
around the edges .
With a tooth pick
Poke about 5 holes into the crust so the hearts don't puff out while baking .
Combine the turbinado sugar
with the red sugar sprinkles .
Mix until all is combined .
Brush a bit of egg wash on top of the crust of the heart
as well as to allow the sugar to stick to the crust.
Ready to Bake .
Place in the oven and Bake
for 18 minutes .
Take out of the oven
and let cool before wrapping in treat bags.
I added Valentine Ribbon for that special touch.
Enjoy!
